Circles!

I love to watch Nathalie Keur videos on Youtube and this was one of them. Although I had a few issues with restricted supplies still (home next week – yippee!).
I had to create my texture from kitchen roll glued down with a prittstick! It works though, def use that one again. The colours look more muted here than they actually are, they are made by scribbling over the stencils with a gellyroll pen and then rubbing through with a babywipe. No stabilo pencil here so I had to use black watercolor paint. And only gesso for a white, but i do have a white pen with me so could add the white dots and touch up the circles a bit. When it was all done I just didn’t think it look blurred enough around the circles so I started adding the whispy bits, not sure that it adds anything but hey ho, once you’ve started you have to finish!
Anyway, I love circles so I’m happy with it! Thanks Nathalie!

Journal 52 Week 7 – Love Yourself

Journal 52 2016 - Wk3 - Love Yourself 001

And then this page was born…..this was a revelation. Fed up with being restricted to watercolour I began exploring other ways to make a background. I found that if I scribbled with the gelly roll pens I could then blend them on the page with a babywipe! Wow! Great fun and endless possiblilities of colour.
Still keen to add some watercolur I dripped watercolour puddles on the glass table here in the villa (!), spritzed it a bit with water and dropped the page onto it swirling it about a bit to add a sort of smeary effect. Then I added some stenciling with black archival ink and brown distress ink. Plus some black lines with the black ink. The image was cut from a health magazine and the words seemed to fit just fine. All in all quite a fun morning when it was way too windy to sit outside!

What can I say….

What indeed can I say about this? Not a lot really except that it was definitely a mistake. It was going to the page for this weeks Journal 52 but then I realised that it was in my Journal whereas I do the J52 pages on loose sheets. But I carried on anyway, now that I’d started. Just pen and watercolour and best forgotten!

Watercolours…….

Not such a sunny day here yet so decided to play with watercolours a bit. Again this was a Youtube video from Einat Kessler some time ago. Mine isn’t too much like how she did it because I had to improvise a lot with supplies, but I really enjoyed doing it! A very gentle page compared with some I’ve done!

Perhaps I should add what was used………Watercolour paints, distress ink through a stencil and stamped on. Lots of gesso. Some bits of magazine pages, more gesso, more paint. A stamped butterfly and paint splatters, plus the quote which is one of my favourites.

Einat Kessler Influences!

I’ve been following Einat on Youtube for ages now and doing the odd page influenced by her.

This one I started while at home and brought on holiday to finish:

I brought gellirol pens with me so they seemed like the ideal thing to finish the details in the hair.  When it came to adding gel medium and micro beads this just wasn’t going to happen! So, out into the garden and I collected some sand and glued it on with a pritstick. Not quite there but it gives it a bit of texture in places!

Thanks Einat, I loved doing this and am now looking forward to starting my Art Journaling 101 class with you when I get home, also the Saturday Mixtravaganza VIP room in April!

On Vacation………….

Here I am still in sometimes not so sunny Fuertaventura! Well, I had this page that has been hanging about for a while and I had no idea how to finish it. It started as just somewhere to rub my sponges on to finish up the dylusions paints. All very pink in the end and not very inspiring.

I have been lurking in the Mixed Media Morsels group on Facebook and when I get home I will be trying all the techniques. their first one was using scrunched up sarin wrap over paint so I thought I’d give that a go on this page.

So, I covered the page with blue watercolor paint, only have my watercolors here, added the sarin wrap and laid it outside to dry (very windy here!!). When the wrap came off I quite liked the effect. It had muted the pink quite nicely and gave the whole thing the look of a garden.

Then I went mad with the few stamps I have with me! Probably a bit over the top but at least I like the finished page now!

Mission Inspiration

Source: Mission Inspiration

More a Mission Impossible than Mission Inspiration –
as I’m currently in one of the less populated areas of Fuertaventura with only lizards for company and  golf course to look out on!
I brought minimum art supplies with me, just watercolour paintbox, 3 stamps (luckily a text stamp), pens, 3 stencils and a small pot of gesso + pre gessoed paper.

So, this is what happened:
1.  Add 2 colours – added, black and red watercolour with my fingers.
2. Add torn magazine ad fragment  – in this case from the Daily Mail coffee break section!
3. Add – a  thin layer of gesso.
4. Add texture paste through a stencil – hmm -no texture paste – at this point I hadn’t seen Mikes recipe which included bicarb, but i didn’t have any anyway and have no idea what the spanish is for bicarb either! So I improvised with gesso and talcum powder. Smelt nice! Applied with a finger (no pallet knife) through the stencil!
5. Make marks with rush or comb – no – cut a piece of stiffish paper to make a sort of comb and made red circular marks.
6. Adhere book text – as I’d used a crossword I decided to use the clues as the book text.
7. Use 2 rubber stamps containing text – not possible, I only have one text stamp but also used a tiny bit of another stamp with tiny dots so hpoefully it looks a bit like text!
8.Add doodles with a coloured pen. Great, brought my gelirol pens with me so I could do that bit OK!
9. Add a quote, ransom note style. This was fine using the newspaper text again.
10. Add a washi-tape border. Not possible, no washi tape. Ah, cut strips of newspaper headlines and use them!

So, mission now complete with a few adjustments!
