Triffids?

This page was inspired by a poster in Holland and Barratts window. Of course it isn’t anything like the poster, probably quite fortunate! I think this was acrylic paint background, well it was last week! Lots of stenciling and doodling. Acrylic flowers with journaling around them. Love the colours and the chaos!

Journal 52 – Wk11 – An Imaginary Creature

This was my first attempt using Bombay Inks. The background was previously gessoed and has a nice texture to it. Two or three shades of acrylic paint were used in the background, blended with a babywipe. The ink was dropped onto the page and blown with a straw. I admit I had to help some of it into the right direction! After drying I added details with a black sharpie pen, trying to use the ink patterns to create bits of body and limbs. Fish and some underwater creatures were stenciled on and some doodling added. I quite like the amazing undersea Inkblot Creature!

Journal 52 – Wk10 – Emerge

Another fun page to do! How do you portray emerge? I found the image of the girl and something prompted me to think of her emerging from a cocoon. Background was once again dylusions sprays and stencils and stamps but most of it is obviously covered up! The cocoon looks more like an egg I think and the arms were from a differnt body so may look just a little odd, oh, and I made the words much too big and the wrong sort of font. Apart from that I quite like it!

Journal 52 – Wk9 – That thing that you love about Art Journaling

I love the different reactions you get when you mix media together. In this piece the background was spray painted with dylusions inks, stencils were added with more paint. Some paint was removed through other stencils. Stamps were added in different colours. The flowers were freehand painted on with a gorgeous fluorescent pink acrylic but they took up some of the dylusions colour from beneath, giving them all differing effects. I love when this happens, you just never know what you will get! Doodles were added and then bits were outlined with a uniball pen. I really like this piece!

Circles!

I love to watch Nathalie Keur videos on Youtube and this was one of them. Although I had a few issues with restricted supplies still (home next week – yippee!).
I had to create my texture from kitchen roll glued down with a prittstick! It works though, def use that one again. The colours look more muted here than they actually are, they are made by scribbling over the stencils with a gellyroll pen and then rubbing through with a babywipe. No stabilo pencil here so I had to use black watercolor paint. And only gesso for a white, but i do have a white pen with me so could add the white dots and touch up the circles a bit. When it was all done I just didn’t think it look blurred enough around the circles so I started adding the whispy bits, not sure that it adds anything but hey ho, once you’ve started you have to finish!
Anyway, I love circles so I’m happy with it! Thanks Nathalie!

Journal 52 Week 7 – Love Yourself

Journal 52 2016 - Wk3 - Love Yourself 001

And then this page was born…..this was a revelation. Fed up with being restricted to watercolour I began exploring other ways to make a background. I found that if I scribbled with the gelly roll pens I could then blend them on the page with a babywipe! Wow! Great fun and endless possiblilities of colour.
Still keen to add some watercolur I dripped watercolour puddles on the glass table here in the villa (!), spritzed it a bit with water and dropped the page onto it swirling it about a bit to add a sort of smeary effect. Then I added some stenciling with black archival ink and brown distress ink. Plus some black lines with the black ink. The image was cut from a health magazine and the words seemed to fit just fine. All in all quite a fun morning when it was way too windy to sit outside!
